HISTORY AND BENEFITS OF WOODEN FLOORING

Flooring is indeed one of the most crucial things for a homeowner and therefore his first concern is to get good, solid and beautiful looking flooring done for the house so that it forms the base for the further designing of the house. Few years back all the homeowners used marble or tile for their flooring but recently the old warhorse of residential flooring, wooden flooring has gained immense popularity because of its low cost, easy installation and low maintenance. It is provides a great look in terms of class and elegance; it has been a favorite of royalty since the age of renaissance.

The history of wooden flooring is similar to any other construction material, it is very humble.  Till about the 16th century most houses in Europe and in the New World used earth as flooring and only the super rich and the Kings had the luxury to afford the expensive wooden flooring. At that time each and every part of the installation was done by hand from cutting of wood into precise pieces to smoothness of the surface. Later, in the New World wood was found in abundance, so people there could enjoy the warmth of wooden flooring. Till 1945, wooden flooring in residential buildings became a regular feature and was done using local species of wood.

After World War II, wood lost its undisputed position as the first choice for flooring and was replaced by modern materials such as marbles, tiles etc which seemed more attractive and glamorous at that time. But in recent years wooden flooring has made a comeback because of its many advantages such as low cost, low maintenance, easy to install, great durability and longevity. Wooden flooring is also very popular because of its ability to provide insulation to the house from the cold and heat of the outside.
